Renewable Energy Projects

Renewable Energy projects in the following areas were generally eligible for financing, receiving a grant and consulting services under the BEERECL:

  • Wind (see more on eligibilty)
  • Run-of-the-river hydro (see more on eligibilty)
  • Biomass
  • Geothermal
  • Solar photovoltaic
  • Solar thermal
  • Biogas

 Eligible renewable energy projects include:

  • New run-of-the-river hydro power projects with less than 10 MW installed capacity (investments in used hydro power equipment or rehabilitating existing sites were not eligible)
  • New and used wind turbines of less than 5 MW installed capacity
  • Biomass investments with installed capacity of less than 5 MW electric output (for biomass heat only boilers with a thermal input higher than 10MWh. The EBRD confirmed eligibility based on an investment summary prepared and submitted by the consultant. The investment summary outlined the fuel supply source and established if an Environmental Impact Assessment was needed for the project)
  • Solar electric or Photovoltaic Systems of under 1 MW installed capacity. Technical assistance was only available to projects of under 500 kW installed capacity and the incentive grant was limited.
